Privacy and Security in the Clouds, Quick List of Things to Think About

June 19, 2009

So you are a growing business and in a down economy, cost can be a huge factor when making buy decisions.  However, it should not be the only factor.  Here are a few things to consider when moving or hosting your communication and collaboration tools into the cloud.

  • The vendor that provides your services should have a solid record when it comes to information access and management.
  • Understand the retention policy of the vendor and make sure it maps to your own policies.
  • Nervous about litigation, on your end or the vendors, find out who “owns” your information, and whether or not the vendor will guarentee to notify you before releasing data.
  • What is the disaster recovery or back-up plan, is your information guarenteed to be restored if something terrible happens?

We know this is not an exhaustive list, do you have more that you would like to see added? please comment below!
